Accommodation

While you’re studying Spanish in Xela you basically have 3 choices of accommodation:

1. Stay with a host family. This can be a cheap way to stay in your own room as it usually works out to around $30 to $40 a week, including 3 meals a day. Usually the families are quite nice but you might not spend as much time interacting with them as you’d like since they’re usually pretty busy and the novelty of hosting foreigners is not so interesting. You may also find you’re not the only guest there and instead of eating with the family you’re spending meal times with other students.

2. Long term accommodation. Check around or ask your school about renting an apartment for a month or more. This is more expensive and you’ve have to sort out your own meals but is the most flexible if you’re staying for a long time. Lots of places in town have flyer’s advertising places.

3. Stay in a hostel. Xela has a few nice hostels such as the Black Cat and Argentina but you might have to put up with noisy backpackers arriving late at night drunk in your dorm.
