In our school we also offer on-on-one English classes to Guatemalans. Students often need English classes to for work, their university studies, or are just learning for pleasure, but there are few affordable options here in Xela. Our mission is offer low cost, native speaker taught classes using the same methodology as our Spanish classes – a dynamic communicative approach that gets students using English in a practical way as soon as possible.
The classes are one-on-one and the emphasis is on a mixture of skills such as spoken conversation, grammar, listening, reading and writing. Students choose their preferred schedule (a minimum of 3 hours a week) and we match them with a teacher who has that schedule free. Most students will study 3 to 10 hours a week with the same teacher.
If you will be in Xela for three months or more and would like to teach English classes part time, we’d love to hear from you. Experience of teaching English is preferable but not always necessary. This is a great opportunity of newly qualified ESL teachers, or tutors of other subjects looking to get started in English teaching. All teaching materials are provided by the school.
Most English tutors exchange their hours for Spanish tuition (one hour for one hour), but alternatively can be paid for their teaching hours. Demand for classes can fluctuate throughout the year but we are always looking for new members of the tutoring team. Most tutors teach 9 -18 hours a week (depending very much on their individual availability).
